You have heard many times that the future is in the youth. Youth is that stage in life where you build the foundation for the kind of life you will lead for the rest of your life. Its in our youth that we build careers, we build friendships and determine the course of our lives. If you waste it, it is a kin to wasting your entire life. The prophet (SAW) said "Take advantage of five matters before five other matters: your youth, before you become old; and your health, before you fall sick; and your richness, before you become poor; and your free time before you become busy; and your life, before your death".

The world we live in is a very brutal one but Alhamdulialh many have managed to stay a float and have taken advantage of it by building successful careers and businesses. But my blog is not so much on the worldly matters. It is on the religious front. The Muslim youth of today is faced with many dilemmas that have pushed him/her away from religious obligations. Career, business, family, studies, entertainment, socialization and of course the internet. We are faced with hurdles that are not easy to surmount with your faith and religious obligations intact. Social pressure is so high and we are so busy that we rarely remember our purpose in life. We always console ourselves that we will do more for the hereafter when we grow old. But habit is a second nature. what you cultivate at young age is what you reap in your old age. It is important to practice and strive towards taking maximum advantage of this stage in life both for worldly matters and for Akhira.if you cannot pray four rakas in congregation now you will not pray qiyaamul layl when you are old. If you engage in fisq and drugs now, you will not become a saint all of a sudden just because your hairline is receding and your joints have become weak.
The key to safeguarding yourself at this stage is to have good friends. Goods friends will always pull you towards good.The prophet (SAW) said " a good friend and a bad friend are like a perfume seller and a black smith:The perfume seller might give some perfume as a gift or you may buy some from him or at least you may enjoy its fragrance, as for the blacksmith he may singe your clothes or at the very least you will get bad smell from the fumes of the furnace"
